It was a great time at my second Matt Mathews show, just as before. The guy's got a great voice and is easy on the eyes, but beyond that, the guy's an entertainer who works hard, works the crowd, and his band's right there with him every step of the way (harder than he could easily get away with). I liked the fact that the between-song patter and set list were different from last year's show - I like a little evidence that performers are "in the moment" :-) You might not think it from all his songs of love lost, but the guy puts on a rock-and-roll par-tay. The fountains behind the stage made a beautiful backdrop at Longwood, making it great to park and easy to get out when it was done. They did have the area right in front of the stage blocked off for some reason - MM referred to this area as "the moat" during the show - so even though we were fourth row and could hardly complain about being able to see, we weren't as close as we thought we'd be. The crowd was a bit on the older (and more sedate) side, too; I'm 35 and probably at the younger end of his fan base, but I don't remember the crowd seeming quite as old to me when I saw him last year at the Keswick.
